A little about me

Picture
I used to stand on the toy box of my childhood bedroom and stare out the window. I stared at an already dying walnut tree the neighbor girl fell from breaking her arm. Beyond the walnut tree were ten tall slender pines dividing our property from the neighbors. It was beyond that where the street led to my escape from ordinary. To where I could be anything I wanted to be.

The sanctuary of my room is where I learned to write. Not in the diary by the bed or sitting at my desk. But on the wooden bottoms of the desk and dresser drawers, on the walls of the closet. I cleared whatever was on the top shelf, climbed up, and wrote by flashlight across the closet walls, often writing over what I'd already written. I wrote in spiral-bound notebooks and on big lined paper that faded to drab yellow as it aged. I wrote from inside my closet on the floor surrounded by pillows. I wrote outside in the trees I climbed and in my playhouse in the backyard. I wrote poetry and fiction and about life's injustices that went something like this: my brother got to take his bath first. I always have to go second. The water is dirty if you go second.

Today, I write for fun and I write for work. The joy is still there. Every day. I look forward to working with you on your project.
